About Edward Potter, CAE

For Ed, civil society and socio-economic development have been twin passions throughout a 30-year professional career. He launched Worldwise Civil Society to bring those passions together to address the underserved needs of Civil Society Organizations engaged in socio-economic initiatives in emerging economies.

As a certified association executive (CAE), he has 15 years of executive leadership experience in international nonprofit organizations with civil society and socio-economic development focus. Among the types of organizations he has worked with include trade, professional and philanthropic associations, foundations, and member-owned and governed cooperative and mutual enterprises.

As an international development practitioner, he has conceptualized, managed, and implemented several projects abroad with private voluntary organizations, international foundations, and international associations. He has worked with funders including the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), private and corporate foundations, public charities, and corporations. He managed a $6 million USAID project to help cooperative and mutual insurers develop affordable and accessible microinsurance financial protections for underserved low-income populations in Latin America and the Caribbean. He has also worked on projects focused on citizen participation, orphan-relief, youth development, and development education throughout the Western Hemisphere.

His expertise includes strategic planning, board and committee governance, multilingual and multicultural group training and facilitation, grant and project management,  international visitor delegation management, advocacy and government-industry relations, product and program development, educational event management, membership recruitment and retention, and public relations. 

A highly rated public speaker and writer, he brings strong interpersonal skills to a multicultural environment. In addition to travel to seven continents, he has lived, studied, and worked extensively in Latin America and the Caribbean. He is fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
